How Green Is My Building?

LEED® Canada for New Construction and Major Renovation is an adaptation of the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System (LEED®), and is tailored specifically for Canadian climates, construction practices, and regulations. This system sets well-founded, scientific standards where decisions and changes can be made to positively affect your building’s environmental footprint. In addition, LEED promotes whole-building design practices, recognizes environmental leadership in the building industry, stimulates green competition, raises consumer awareness of green building benefits, and transforms the building market into a more environmentally responsible entity.

Why Being Green Is Important?

From an environmental perspective, being green helps protect our ecosystem, improves our air and water quality, reduces solid waste, and conserves our natural resources. Over the last few decades,
an increasing concern for these elements has given them the long-overdue attention they deserve.
People are more aware than ever before that open land is shrinking, landfills are quickly expanding, natural resources are dwindling and the world’s water and air quality cries out for immediate improvement. To answer the growing challenge, people are reading out for immediate improvement. To answer the growing challenge, people are reading labels, more closely scrutinizing energy ratings, recycling more, considering how products are made, and, generally speaking, making “greener” decisions.
